The Walk from the Bathhouse

Tanka Poem

Delightful contrast,

Washing away outdoor grit.

Prepping the canvas.

More adventures to follow,

More layers of dirt await.

Opening the door,

Breeze caresses fresh clean skin.

Balm for the sun-kissed,

Nature’s dryer for wet hair,

Refreshment for the sleepy.

Pupils adjusting.

Moonlight illuminates path.

A glance heavenward, 

Hastily halting our steps,  

Swiftly stealing air from lungs. 

Gazing up in awe.

Sky freckles shining brightly, 

Reflecting beauty. 

Freckled faces at my side, 

Reflecting on the brilliance. 

Footsteps continue.

Silence amplifying sound.

Chirping of crickets,

Soft murmurs from campfires,

Cadence of shower shoe squeaks.

Smoke and soap mingle.

Scents tango like dancing flames.

Day’s peaceful ending. 

Relaxation at its best.

Satisfying walk to camp.
