The Comma

A pause,

A break in a sentence, a break in thought,

A rest,

A moment of silence, a breath to be caught,

A time to retreat, reset, respite, resist, 

Creating rhythm, as we think, speak, simply exist.

Without the comma sentences would run on and on without any structure or natural cadence and lack understanding while losing steam and resulting in a weary and depleted end.

Lungs deflated,

Energy spent,

Head spinning,

Mind absent.

The comma is a gift,

A necessary present of presence,

Sabbath for man,

Punctuated pause for a sentence.

Batteries recharge when powered off, 

Cells regenerate during sleep,

Life happens in the margins,

Growth in the wait is abundant and deep.

The comma is a reminder,

To look up, to look around,

A signal, a yield sign,

To look within, to slow down.

The comma is a bridge,

Shape of a hook, function of a link,

What was, what’s to come,

The not yet arrives in a blink.

Pause, rest, embrace the comma,

Quiet the checkmark trend,

Breathe, release, surrender, 

Before a period marks the end.
