Lyrics to a song (piano) that I wrote a while back, based on Psalm 56. This passage comforted me during a very hard trial, and it still does. My current trial is different, but He is the same God.
Verse:
A bottle in the kitchen
Held a fresh bouquet
Life was beautiful
Wouldn’t always be that way
The sun begins to set
My fear begins to rise
Can’t seem to outrun
All the darkness and lies
A bottle of perfume
Bought at a high cost
Could I surrender
No matter what is lost
And shatter
My alabaster
Bottle
Chorus:
As I toss and I turn
Tryin' in vain to count sheep
You count my tossings
Neither slumber nor do You sleep
Strife and sorrow
Follow after my fears
But, You hold a bottle
Of every one of my tears
Verse:
Trampled and oppressed
By man with a bottle
Watch through shielded eyes
As my world begins to topple
Despair seeks to destroy
Hope begins to wane
What is to become
Of this bottled-up fear and pain?
The days are so long
And the nights are longer
Enemies attack
But, I know You’re stronger
You shatter
That bottle
Fear is no longer
Chorus:
As I toss and I turn
Tryin' in vain to count sheep
You count my tossings
Neither slumber nor do You sleep
Strife and sorrow
Follow after my fears
But, You hold a bottle
Of every one of my tears
Bridge:
In God, whose word I praise
In God, whose word I praise
I trust in You alone
A thanks offering I raise
In God, whose word I praise
In God, whose word I praise
You delivered me
I’ll walk with you all of my days
Chorus:
As I toss and I turn
Tryin' in vain to count sheep
You count my tossings
Neither slumber nor do You sleep
Your love, joy, and peace
Follow when I draw near
To the One who holds a bottle
Of every single tear
Outro:
When I am afraid
God, I put my trust in You
What then, to me,
Can flesh really do?
I shall not be afraid
You have set me free
For this I know, that
My God is for me
