Once upon a strange time...
I won a literature contest in high school.
And I recently found this old poem, ribbon, certificate, and newspaper clipping in a box in the attic.
But all joking aside,
This is proof that my longtime love of rhymes is certified.
Wouldn't it be really strange if
All roads were yellow brick roads,
And handsome princes really were toads?
If a pot of gold was found at a rainbow's end,
And a fairy godmother was our truest friend?
If gingerbread men could jump up and run away,
And Candyland wasn't just a game to play?
If a sprinkle of fairy dust could make anyone fly,
And beautiful castles were built in the sky?
If a pumpkin could turn into a carriage,
And everything ended with marriage?
If mirrors really talked back to us,
And rabbits, late for dates, would make a big fuss?
But, do you know what would be the strangest thing of all?
If we had no imaginations at all!
There'd be no more laughter and no more smiles.
No song or tune could be heard for miles.
But, thank goodness, we do!
For happy endings are what we look forward to.
So bring on the songs and laughter,
Because we will all live happily ever after!
