We all know the saying, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” And I know many who have been forced into becoming professional lemonade makers.
Well, as much as I enjoy a mason jar of iced lemonade, I enjoy cake more. Therefore, I like to say, “When life messes up your cake, make a trifle.”
I love this layered beauty of a dessert. And I will often bake something specifically to be used in the assembling of a trifle. However, there is just something about using an ugly pound cake that stuck to the pan, a pan of brownies that burned around the edges, or sad cake layers that fell a little when they came out of the oven.
Flawed cake surrounded by fluffy mousse and delicate whipped cream.
Damaged brownies in community with juicy berries or crunchy candy bar pieces.
Contrasting layers of harmony in a bowl.
That baked good that didn’t turn out like you expected is given a second chance. Nothing is wasted. Its role is simply repurposed for a greater mission.
So, dish out a helping of trifle and pour yourself a glass of lemonade.
Redemption never tasted so sweet.
