Heavy-Duty Picnic Table Cover

Camping gear that is both incredibly functional and sentimental? This would be that item for me.

I’m often asked about this unique picnic table cover. And I’ve yet to see another one like it during our camping trips. This set is one of my favorite camping gear items because of its extreme durability, practical comfort, ease of cleaning, and convenient packability. Can you camp without a picnic table cover? Sure, absolutely. Do bench covers and a tablecloth prevent splinters and provide a cleaner place to eat and play games? You bet. 

When I moved to Virginia as a single mom and began camping again, my grandparents gave me this blue set to add to my gear. They picked it up at a Thousand Trails campground store many years ago during their travels around the country. After selling their house, they lived my dream of touring every state while living full-time in a motorhome. This table cover set has seen many places and it now travels with us - the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Perhaps it will even travel with the generation after that someday as well!

Now, this thing is heavy-duty. We’re talking marine-grade vinyl here. Think boat seat quality. Besides a few stains on the backside, the set looks good as new, despite its “antique” status. I have not seen anything like it that compares to the quality of this cover. Once it’s placed snuggly on the table and benches, it doesn’t budge. And it wipes down smoothly with a Clorox wipe. It does need to be completely dry before being folded and placed in its handy-dandy matching carrying bag. 

So, where can you find one these days? Well, I’m not sure if Thousand Trails carries them anymore. From my digging, I’m thinking not. There is one on Amazon that looks very similar, called Table Gloves. They are pricey though. So, my advice is that if you come across one of these awesome covers, hang on to it. If you know someone who can sew heavy-duty items, look into having one made. Then, enjoy many a camping picnic upon it. And pass it down to your children and grandchildren to be treasured for many years.
