One by one they make the journey outdoors,
Traveling from as far as an upstairs bedroom,
Where two live atop a chest of drawers,
Cleaning, while carbon dioxide they consume.
Others set out on a much shorter path
From their respective homes.
Sunroom, office, den, and half bath;
Vegetation wherever one roams.
Like a wind-rippled jungle-green sea,
Leaves wave, reuniting in celebration.
Offspring continues the family tree;
Multiplication through propagation.
The outdoor retreat may be brief for this crew,
But this annual sojourn is imperative.
Out with the old, in with the new;
A simple act, greatly impacting their narrative.
With gentle yet firm hands they are untangled.
Hard, weary dirt breaks away.
Roots loosen, no longer strangled,
Realizing transformation is underway.
Discomfort is often a partner of change.
Stimulating roots that have grown deficient,
Stretching further than the perceived range,
Learning that one is not self-sufficient.
New soil provides what they need,
Nutrients for a life healthy and strong.
While the process is a messy deed,
They find that this is where they belong.
One by one they journey home again,
Standing taller with a bit more zest.
Bringing the goodness of the outdoors in,
And spreading peace, joy, and rest.
